CHANGE IN OPERATING DATES
Due to the current weather and forecasts over the next week, we've had to look realistically at our schedule and make some adjustments to our operating dates over the next two weeks so read on for all the info:
While sun-starved Islanders have been doing literal “hot laps” of the mountain over the last few weeks in the balmy temps and sunshine, we've been dealing with some intriguing snow farming challenges up here.
“We've seen a major warm-up over the last couple of weeks and the forecasts are calling for significant precipitation with heavy rains and warm weather continuing over the next few days,” explains Don Sharpe, Director of Business Operations and Marketing. “As a result, we've made the decision to change our closing dates and make adjustments to our operating dates leading up to our final weekend of winter operations.”
So, what that means is we will be operating daily until Sunday, April 7th then closing Monday, April 8th to Thursday, April 11th. We will reopen for a final weekend from Friday, April 12th to Sunday, April 14th.
“We've had a good run of extended openings and additional days to ski and board over the last few years, but we're snow farmers at the end of the day. The weather has thrown us a curve ball so we've been forced to adjust our operating dates,” adds Sharpe.
To deal with the expected unconsolidated snow issues we're bound to encounter midweek next week, we're going to close the mountain and push snow from mid-mountain down to the lower mountain. This will ensure optimum riding conditions going into the final weekend and buy us time to fill in spots that need filling, rope off creek beds, etc. as needed.
